These images began as my photographs and were reimagined using Midjourney, an AI image making tool.

I know this is a website where photography is supposed to be the sensible answer to every problem. But curiosity has always pushed me to find new ways of expressing what I see and feel.
Maybe it began way back with finger paints, then colored pencils, watercolors, a point-and-shoot camera, and then all the other tools that somehow carried me into the middle of this great digital upheaval.
If I remember my history right, even photography came under suspicion in its early days. Like every new medium, it arrived with an expert solemnly announcing the end of art as we knew it. And in certain corners of the art community, it still has not quite been accepted.
The whole subject is controversial, especially now, in our visual world. But what can I say? A lifetime spent making pictures with a camera has only made me more curious as to what else is out there.
And no, I have not gone over to the dark side.
So, these images are no longer photographs.
They were made individually using Midjourney, an AI image-making tool, then worked and reworked until they revealed something that I needed to see.
They are not replacements for my originals. They have become something else. I think of them as Emotional Equivalents.
What’s going on is simple. I’m pulling some favorite photographs from my archive and reimagining them.
I am not abandoning photography. I am returning to my own photographs and asking what else was present when I pressed the shutter: the memory, atmosphere, imagination, and emotion that the camera could not always record literally. Every original photograph here is mine. I’m using Midjourney to reinterpret my own work, not someone else’s.
That’s a legitimate continuation of a lifetime spent making pictures.
If you’re curious about the process, I’d be glad to talk about it.
